Follow Friday April 8

This is Follow Friday, hosted by Parajunkee's View

Today's Question is:

Do You Judge a Book by its Cover?

Yes, much of the time. I mean, a poorly done cover isn't a guarantee I won't read the book, but if I'm in a store or the library, it means I probably won't pick it up. Online or on the Kindle Store, I more use cover art as a quick judge of genre if I'm not sorting by genre. For example, when I'm clicking through cheap or free books, I won't click on any romance or lit-fic looking covers.

For ebooks I'm more likely to buy/read based on the description than the cover, but I'll still judge the cover. If it looks like complete crap, that could be an indication of the quality of the writing, so it has to be a consideration.

  1. Yes, I surely do judge a book by the cover. Not always but more often then not. I'm known for not reading synopsis so if your cover doesn't show me what I want to know or if someone doesn't recommend it... chances are I'm reading someone else's book.

  2. Hopping through. I think covers are more important when you're shopping online because you don't have a tangible book to pick up.

  4. I agree. During my ebook shopping, I have to read the description cause sometimes the 99 cents reads can be the best books ever but they don't have the prettiest of covers or a popular author behind it.

  5. I agree, I read mostly Kindle but I shop through my Blogger friends so I see the covers.
I'm an admitted Cover Lover but if the synopsis doesn't pique my interest, I don't care how gorgeous it is.

I got started on The Soul Screamer series through a free e-book on my Kindle and loved it immediately having never even seen the cover :o]

I get ARC's now that have beautiful covers, So-so covers-not any ugly ones, actually. I think publishers are figuring out that Cover Lover Mania has taken over more now than ever.
I know one author whose book was postponed 2 months waiting for the 'perfect' cover. Just goes to show...

  6. Hi Lindsay! New follower here. Would love for you to follow me. Nice to meet you.

For me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.
    Happy Follow Friday!!!

  8. I have to admit a nice cover will catch my eye sooner than a book with one that I don't like. But I have learned to give books a chance if I don't like the cover. I'm already a follower. My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews
